Green Legacy

The communities recognized here are saving their natural and cultural heritage for future generations. Many are preserving habitat, woodlands, wetlands and other critical resources. Some are protecting farmland in an effort to maintain rural character and secure local self-sufficiency in addition to maintaining agriculture as part of the local economy and way of life. Others are protecting greenbelts and open space to reinforce community identity and secure places where people can continue to experience the countryside. Rather than attempt detailed explanations of how or why these communities are succeeding, this site simply congratulates and celebrates these towns, cities and counties for their commitment to preserving the best of what remains for their children and grandchildren.
